Daily Mile Launches Mental Health Toolkit in parntership with SAMH
New Mental Health Toolkit Launched to Support Children’s Wellbeing Through Movement in partnership with SAMH
With one in five children in the UK now facing a probable mental health condition, the need for meaningful, everyday support in schools has never been greater.
That’s why The Daily Mile Foundation has partnered with SAMH (Scottish Action for Mental Health) to launch a brand-new Mental Health Toolkit, free resources designed to help schools support children’s emotional wellbeing through movement and simple, classroom-friendly activities.
Unveiled at Keir Hardie Memorial Primary School in Motherwell, the toolkit is available now to schools across the UK and internationally.
What’s in the Toolkit?
Co-created with teachers and based on the Five Ways to Wellbeing, the toolkit includes:
-
Mood boards and word games
-
Movement-based mental health activities
-
Conversation cards to encourage reflection
-
Breathing exercises and grounding techniques
-
Ideas to help children feel calm, connected, and more in control of their emotions
All resources are easy to use, require minimal preparation, and are designed to fit into the school day alongside PSHE or wellbeing sessions.
Why It Matters
According to the latest NHS data (2023), one in five children aged 8–16 now has a probable mental health condition. Teachers and schools are seeing this every day – and many are calling for more practical support.
This new toolkit aims to provide just that.
“The Daily Mile has always been about giving children a simple, fun way to move every day, improving their health and happiness,” said Gordon Banks, Global Director at The Daily Mile Foundation.
“With this toolkit, created in partnership with SAMH, we’re now supporting children emotionally too. By linking physical activity to the Five Ways to Wellbeing, we can help build confidence, mood, and resilience – because healthy minds and bodies go hand in hand.”

Schools can access it via a short registration form, which also helps us understand the challenges teachers are facing and how we can provide further support.
