The effect of The Daily Mile on Primary School Children's Aerobic Fitness Levels After 12 Weeks: A Controlled Trial (2020, de Jonge)

      • This study examined the effects of The Daily Mile on aerobic fitness in Dutch primary school children (aged 8-12 years). 253 children took part in the initiative on days where there was no scheduled Physical Education (PE) class, which equated to three or four times per week, and 338 continued regular activity as a control group.
      • Outcomes were assessed using a Shuttle Run Test. When performed for 12 weeks, significant positive effects were observed to children’s aerobic fitness. The evidence also showed that The Daily Mile is effective without extra training or support for teachers - it’s intentionally simple, making it easy for schools to implement straight away.
